After my Long Lasting Red Lips post I got to thinking about the other scale of the bold, matte red lip - the sheer red lip. Sheer red lips are great for everyday, comfortable, easy lips and for beginner red gals. Here are my favourite 5 easy red lips which are sheer and moisturising.

As you can see in comparison the the first swatch on my arm (Mac Russian Red - Matte) they are nowhere near as opaque or intense yet still provide a bit of colour.

Description below are in order of the swatches, starting from the second swatch

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter - Candy Apple (£7.99)
As the name states, this is a lip butter which means it is incredibly hydrating on the lips and so comfortable to wear. There is no particular scent to this lip butter that I can sense. The shade Candy Apple is the only red in the line and it pulls an apple red with warm undertones. It can be applied sheerly or you can make it a stronger by building upon the colour.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - Romantic (£7.99)
The Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are a hydrating stain. They smell pepperminty which I like but others may not. They are a very easy on-the-go lip product. Once the balm wears off you are left with a stain so this is a longer lasting sheer red lip. This again can be sheer if applied lightly or built up (slightly). The shade of this red is a tomato red with more orange undertones rather than blue.

MAC Lady Bug (£15)
In the bullet Mac Lady Bug can look a little daunting however it is a Lustre finish which is a sheer formulation. Lady Bug is a tomato red with yellow undertones. Like all Mac lipsticks it has that delicious vanilla scent. I find that this builds well if you are wanting a more opaque finish. As it is a Lustre it has a nice glossy finish due to the sheer formula.

L'Oreal Glam Shine Lip Gloss - Sheer Grenadine (£7.69)
Now this doesn't look particularly red in the photo however this is super super great for somebody who is afraid of colour. It will add a hint of a warm red on the lips without being too much colour. This works great as a very light summer shade on the lips if you are wanting that ultra-natural make-up look.

Korres Wild Rose Lip Balm (£8.25)
Tinted lip balms are one of the easiest ways to get into colour and lipstick. They are also super easy, almost foolproof so is great for mothers, travellers and teens. The colour of this Korres Wild Rose Lip Balm is a deeper red than the others and has a darker velvety rose shade to it. It smells like roses so is great for rose lovers like me. I find this to be great for the colder months when my lips are chapped and wearing any kind of lipstick is impossible as all I want to do is keep them hydrated and soft.

What's your favourite sheer red?

  1. I love the look of Mac Ladybug, still a lovely red colour but slightly more subtle than Russian Red!

    1. It certainly is a nice red and quite buildable if you want something strong but not as bold as Russian Red! x
