A few weeks ago I tried my hand at ombre nails. Now, I am by no means a nail artist and I have yet to improve however if I can do an ok job at ombre nails then so can you!
Step 1: Pick two colours. These can be any colour however I recommend a lighter shade and a darker shade, they can be of the same colour or different colours. My two picks are: Rimmel Green With Envy and Rimmel Sunshine for a nice summery nail.
Step 2: Apply a base coat. Any base coat of preference (I have used O.P.I Nail Envy). Then apply your lightest shade until you have achieved your desired opacity. Your base shade should be concentrated on the lower or upper part of the nail and the other colour (darkest colour) will be the colour it fades into as darker colours are easier to fade and sponge on.
Step 4: Let's put that sponge to work! Dab a corner into the nail polish then begin at your desired end (mine is the bottom). Stipple it on gently, less is always more as we can build colour. You want to make sure that it is more opaque at the base and tips of your nails and that the gradiation of the colours is concentrated at the centre of the nail.
Step 5: If you are happy with your results then simply apply a top coat to lock that colour in and prolong any chipping. If you are a bit of a perfectionist then stipple on some yellow - be sure to use a clean corner of the sponge - until you achieve that perfect ombre.
Step 6: Sit back and admire your work! Maybe instagram it. Maybe show all your friends and family!
